The Romanian American University Senate deeply mourns the sudden death of the man who was Professor Ion Smedescu, Rector and Founding President of the Romanian
American University, a leading figure of Romanian academia, a reputed marketing specialist, trend-setter and promoter of private academic education.
Doctor Ion Smedescu professed that he founded the Romanian American University in 1991, in order to "promote the values of American academic education, against the
background of rich Romanian educational traditions", a national endeavor that he defined as: "The Romanian American University means everything to me: my home,
my family, my job and my leisure".
The academic community of the Romanian American University is struck by grief as we lose not only the man who guided our steps with wisdom, skill and vision for 18
years but also the MAN who stood by our side, understood our troubles, encouraged us and urged us to do more than our best.
On Monday, October 6th 2008, at 16.00, his body will be taken to the Romanian American University Chapel, 1B Expozitiei Bd.
May God rest his soul!
